If you just want to read
If you expect that your visits here will be only for reading, welcome!
If you want to edit the pages
If you think that you will be adding information or editing existing pages, you can do that without any further ado.
When saving edited pages, you can set a username for yourself. You can skip this part, though we would be glad if you don't :). The username should be in camelcase and once you enter it in the box, it will be stored for you. The convention is to use your first and last name smashed together in CamelCase, example DeepakGoel, but it is really up to you. It is important to use mixed case and no spaces, so that your username becomes a valid wiki page. Once you do that, clicking on your username will take you to your new homepage on this wiki. Welcome to the wiki! Also add your name to CategoryHomepage. See that page for more examples and details.
The username will be used to tag any edits you make on RecentChanges, and it will appear in the list of [recent visitors]. Note that even if you do have a username, your IP or hostname will be logged -- and be visible to others. Your username is not secure. Anybody can use the same name as you do. We believe in "soft security".
Cookies are specific to the machine and browser you are using, thus the cookie will be lost as soon as you use another browser or as soon as you connect from another machine.
Historical Note
The original UseMod 0.92 script stored user preferences, including the username, on the server and identified users via a numerical ID. This is no longer necessary.
